September 2011 is National Library Card Sign-Up Month, as designated by the American Library Association. Public libraries and the endless array of resources they offer to library cardholders add tremendous value to their communities. A library card acts like a ticket to a world of literature, research, technology tools, meeting and study space, live entertainment, the fine arts, and much more. The Barrington Area Library is particularly excited about this year's observance, as the library rolls out two new library card designs, including a bright green card just for children. The new designs are part of the library's ongoing rebranding project, intended to give the library's public relations materials an updated and more consistent look.
To celebrate the new designs, the library has partnered with two local businesses for a fun campaign that adds even more value to a library card. From September 1 - 30, 2011, displaying a Barrington Area Library card at the Barrington McDonald's and Norton's U.S.A. will result in additional savings. The Barrington McDonald's, owned by the Bear Family Restaurant group, is offering a buy one, get one free deal on all McCafé drinks, hot or cold. Norton's U.S.A., owned by local businessperson Deborah Leydig, will offer customers 15% off one item simply for displaying a Barrington Area Library card.
Patrons do not need one of the new cards to take advantage of the savings. "Barrington Area Library cards might be black, green, blue or even yellow! Of course, our patrons are welcome to come in for a new card, but your old card remains valid with us and with our local business partners," states Karen McBride, Head of Public Information at the library. If you own a Barrington area business and would like to extend a special offer to Barrington Area Library cardholders, contact the library's Public Information office at 847-382-1300, x 205.
