First she was selected along with two others by the Barrington Area Library to enter a national poetry contest sponsored by Voices of Youth Advocates, but now Barrington resident Alicia Parrish has gone on to win the national competition.

Two librarians from the Barrington Area Library have been selected to join a pool of only 30 other librarians to participate in a new state initiative to work with and develop future library leaders. Liz Hubert and Carrie Straka will represent the Barrington Area Library in this year-long program officially titled "Synergy, The Illinois Library Leadership Initiative."

The Barrington Area Library Board of Trustees met January 12 and appointed Kathleen A. Peterson to fill a vacancy on their board. Peterson is a former teacher, and also a former employee of the library working as a page from 1998-2008 after retiring from teaching.
